Each artist involved was invited to participate due to their previously proven interest in recycled materials, sustainable production or ethical jewellery making.
The challenge was the appeal for some artists, whilst others were drawn to the sentiment and values of the project.
All of the artists involved agree it was a difficult task - one which challenged ideas of what is sustainable, demanded re-evaluation of aesthetic concepts, pushed material sensitivity and use to its limits. Some artists were instantly inspired by a specific donated item, others searched for meaning or aesthetic realisations with materials that were an odd combination of precious and costume jewellery. Many experiments were failures, others illuminated the path to specific outcomes. Largely it was trial and error. A lot of tinkering and a lot of love went in to make the final pieces.
